Pond design: 50-100 sq ft minimum for a natural-looking pond. 2-3 ft deep minimum for fish survival over winter. Preformed liners for small features, EPDM rubber liner for custom shapes. Location: partial shade reduces algae, full sun enables water lilies.
Pump sizing: circulate the entire pond volume once per hour. A 500-gallon pond needs a 500 GPH pump. Add 100 GPH per foot of waterfall height. Biofiltration is essential for clear water - plants alone can't handle the nutrient load from fish and debris.
